Entrepreneurship at Green Malata

At Green Malata, students are exposed to entrepreneurship early on in their education. The bread rolls made as part of the bakery course and any surplus produce grown by the agricultural students are sold. The same goes for the reusable sanitary pads made by our Deaf tailoring students, or the dishes prepared by the Hospitality Management course.

As part of their course, our students also learn to prepare a business plan. It's crucial that they know how their chosen profession fits into the local economy, and how they can create a sustainable and profitable business.

It is also crucial that Green Malata itself fully embraces entrepreneurship. In order to reduce our dependence on donors, we reinvest whatever we make back into our center. In 2019, 15% of our budget was covered with income generation.

We hope to be able to increase this level of self-reliance in the coming years. We feel that if we ask our students to work towards financial independence, then we should ask the same of ourselves.

Meet our entrepreneurs
